The golden state
Ever wondered how California got its name? Early Spanish explorers mistakenly thought that California was an island. They named it after a mythical island from a Spanish novel called California. It was ruled by Queen Califia and the only people living there were female warriors who used gold tools and weapons. California got its nickname 'The Golden State' a few centuries later when a massive rush of gold seekers came to California to get rich.
