Step One: Evaporation

Definition: The change of water into a gas

This gas is called Water Vapor

At the exploratorium in California they did an experiment on how long it took for water to evaporate! They used a cup of water and a lab scale to see how long it took. Their observation was that it takes 16 minutes for 1 raindrop to evaporate.

Step Two:Condensation

Definition: The change of water vapor into water droplets

This step is the opposite of evaporation

You can see condensation! Have you ever had a glass of something to drink and saw water droplets on the outside of it? That's condensation!

Step Three: Precipitation

Definition: When water falls from the sky in the form of rain, snow, or hail.

This step happens when the water droplets are to heavy to fit in the cloud anymore.

Go outside this week and see if you can see precipitation!

Step Four: Collection

Definition: Oceans, lakes, and even the ground collects water that has fallen

The water ends right back where it started and the process begins again and again
