OUR DEMOCRACY

INTRODUCTION

We discussed constitution in our previous lesson where we also identified the functions of a constitution towards nation building. In nation building, another component we are to discuss is democracy.

• Identify the characteristics of democratic governance
• Explain the role of democracy in nation building

DEMOCRACY

The word Democracy derived from two Greek words Demos and Kratos. Where;

• Demos means People         and
  

• Kratos means rule

Literary, Democracy means Rule of the People.
