Planning for your Future

Session Aims

  • Reflect on your future goals and intended destination.

  • Explore different pathways, including further study, employment, and apprenticeships.

  • Identify practical steps to take now to achieve their goals.

  • Create a personalised action plan.

Your Future Self

Imagine you are five years from now and ask yourself:

  • Where are you?

  • What are you doing?

  • What experiences helped you get there?

Share this with the person next to you.

Exploring Next Steps

  • What career are you considering?

  • Do you need to apply for another course?

  • Are you planning to go into higher education?

  • What employment route interests you (full-time work, apprenticeship, self-employment)?

  • Have you got an intended destination?

Let’s Research

  • Find your chosen career path

  • What are the entry requirements? (e.g., qualifications, skills, experience).

  • What is the potential salary and job growth in that field?

  • Skills gap analysis – What skills do you already have? What do you need to develop?

Action Planning

  • Goal: Where do I want to be?

  • Steps to Take: What can I start doing now?

  • Resources Needed: Do I need advice, training, funding?

  • Support Network: Who can help me (teachers, career advisors, family)?

  • Timeline: What should I achieve by next term? Next year?

Reflection...

  • How do you feel about your next steps?

  • Are they manageable?

  • Remember to revisit your action plan regularly (it may change)
