Chapter 3 par. 5

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

what we already know about blood transport
oxygen transport from lungs to cells
carbon dioxide from cells to lungs
nutrients from intestine to cells
waste from cells to kidneys

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

do the assignment
on the worksheet

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The different blood parts
  • Plasma 55%
  • Red blood cells 45%
  • Platelets & white blood cells <1 %

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Blood composition
-5 liters in your body

-Plasma: water with chemicals

-Blood cells

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

all the hidden pictures you have to print and hang in the classroom before hand!

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

assignment: information hunt
- there is information on sheets in the classroom
- you wille see questions projected on the board
- one of you will go find information
- the other one writes down the answers
- half way through the questions you switch

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

how does the body produce blood?
  • the bone marrow of flat bones produces bloodcells (red bone marrow)
  • PLATELETS, RED AND WHITE BLOOD CELLS

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Anemia (bloed armoede)
-lower amount of red blood cells
-less oxygen can be transported
-treatment -> blood transfusion

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Leukemia
-blood cancer
-high number of abnormal blood cells

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Red blood cells
-Carry oxygen
-No nucleus
-Filled with haemoglobin
(binds oxygen)

Which are red blood cells?

Slide 12 - Tekstslide

structure haemoglobin

Slide 13 - Tekstslide

White blood cells
  • good health
  • protection
  • immunity cells
  • phagocytes ('eat')
  • lymphocytes (antibodies)

Slide 14 - Tekstslide

White blood cells -> fight
diseases
Lymphocytes
- make antibodies that attack pathogens
1. they stick together
2. they dissolve them
3. they destroy the toxins they make

your lymphocytes can make memory cells,
when the same disease enters your body they
immediately make antibodies => immunity

Slide 15 - Tekstslide

questions (15 minutes)
1. Which substance is the biggest part of blood?
2. Which blood cells produce antibodies?
3.Were do the red blood cells develop?
4.What type of cell is specialised to transport oxygen?
5.What type of cell is specialised to protect our body against germs?
6.Which mineral is needed for making our red blood cells?
7.Which two types of white bloodcells do we have?
8. How do our specialized cells for protecting against germs work?
9.Which type of bloodcells are abnormal in leukemia?
10. What's wrong with your blood when you have anemia?

Slide 16 - Tekstslide

answers
1. plasma
2. lymphocytes
3. red bone marrow
4. red blood cells
5. white blood cells
6. iron
7. lymphocytes and fagocytes
8. they make antibodies that stick to germs (lymphocytes) and fagocytes 'eat' germs and destroy them.
9. white blood cells => more
10. too little red blood cells
