Software Program or app which can run on device that can process it.  It allows the user to direct the operation of the device s. There are two types of software . Off the shelf and custom made

Software that can be purchased by anyone online or in a shop. The specific program is the same for everyone.

Custom Program  also known as bespoke.

Software that is specially designed and created for a particular purpose. For example banking system and production line.

Advantage of  off the shelf software 

• Usually cheaper 
• Well tested and bug free
• Good support available from books, internet and companies who make the product.

Advantage of custom made Software 

• Specific for a particular function and company 
• Does exactly what the company wants to do.
