Direct speech & Reported speech

Direct speech is wanneer je zelf iets verteld.
"I am going to watch a movie."
 
Reported speech is wanneer je iets naverteld. 
"He said he was going to watch a movie."

Present simple > Past simple

Als je de present simple gebruikte in Direct speech, dan zal dit veranderen in de Past simple.

Voorbeeld:
I like my dog > Joost said he liked his dog.
I have to go to school. > Joost said he had to go to school.

Zet deze zin in Reported speech:
"I like to eat ice cream"

Past simple > Past perfect

De past simple zal de Past simple blijven wanneer iets in Reported speech gezegd wordt.

Voorbeeld:
Billy arrived yesterday > Joost said that Billy had arrived yesterday.

"I never liked that book"

Present continuous > Past continuous.

De present continuous zal de Past continuous worden, dit betekent dat iets in het verleden is gebeurt en een tijdje doorging.

Voorbeeld:
I am playing with my dog. > Joost said he was playing with his dog.
I am living in Panningen. > Joost said he was living in Panningen.

"I am watching a movie."

Present perfect > Past perfect

De present perfect zal de Past perfect worden. (Had + voltooid deelwoord)

Voorbeeld:
I have lost my keys. > Joost said he had lost his keys.
I have played football for three years. > Joost said he had played football for three years.

Can > Could

Wanneer je Can gebruikte in je Direct Speech zal dit worden verandert in Could.

Voorbeeld:
I can sing. > Joost said he could sing.
I can help you with your homework. > Joost said he could help you with your homework.

Wanneer je Will gebruikte in je Direct speech dan zit dit worden verandert in Would.

Voorbeeld:
I will go to the store tomorrow. > Joost said he would go to the store tomorrow.
I will clean my room. > Joost said he would clean his room.

- These verbs don't change in reported speech:
might, must, should, could, would, would like
- That is often ommited in reported speech:
He said (that) he'd call you.
