  • Can and could are modal verbs used to make requests. 
  • Structure: 
CAN/COULD + subject + verb (infinitive without TO) 

For example:
  • Can you pass the juice?
  • Could you help me with my homework Mr. Johnston?

  • Can and mayare modal verbs used to ask for permission.

MAY / COULD / CAN +  I +  verb (infinitive without TO)
