Slide 7 - Slide

So, what now?
I don't want you to be scared of every company on the internet
Instead, try to be more aware of what you do on the internet, since things can come back to haunt you in your later life.

Slide 8 - Slide

What should you not do on the internet?

Slide 9 - Open question

Some rules of thumb
Try to avoid posting pictures on the internet (or saving them in the cloud) which contain elements which could be considered unprofessional by society (Your selfie with your beer is not cool, neither is the one with wine or a cigarette...)
The cloud is nice and useful, but try to avoid uploading sensitive photos on iCloud, One Drive or Google Drive.

Slide 10 - Slide

A reason to listen to my advice
Remember when nude selfies of celebrities were leaked on the internet? It hit a lot of headlines in the news.
Those pictures came from iCloud made by Apple...
Imagine if ALL your photos were leaked on the internet including ones where you try to zoom in on that pimple on your back. (Ouch)

Slide 11 - Slide

Who is responsible for our privacy?

Slide 12 - Mind map

If a service can be used for free, you don't pay for it using your money since you... (finish the sentence)

Slide 13 - Open question

How do we try to protect you?
Teachers should be aware of the GDPR (European General Data Protection Regulation) and should adhere to the regulations
Not everyone has access to Magister and when they do they can only see relevant information
5 years after your graduation, the school will delete your personal information

Some advices from a former Privacy Officer
Do not accept all cookies on the internet (this helps a lot)
Do not download an app unless it is necessary (the website often functions just as well)
Try to clear your browser data once every month or so
Ask questions! Be sceptical! If something is too good to be true, then it is.
Do you have concerns regarding your privacy? Ask me!

What’s next?
After the spring vacation you’ll be reading a novel in which privacy is going to be one of the central themes. (The Circle by Dave Eggers)
We will continue this discussion on privacy after you’ve finished the book. We will have a class debate on privacy in the book and you will write an essay on The Circle.
