Can/Could and Imperative

Rules

• Je gebruikt can om te zeggen dat iemand iets kan. Can blijft altijd hetzelfde.
• Je gebruikt can't / cannot om aan te geven dat iemand iets niet kan.
• Je gebruikt could om te zeggen dat iemand iets ZOU KUNNEN doen.
• Could is OOK de verleden tijd van can
• Om vragen te maken zet je can en could vooraan in de zin.
• Het is beleefder om could te gebruiken.

Imperative/Gebiedende wijs

Als iemand iets moet doen:

• begin de zin met het hele werkwoord -> Do your homework.

Je kunt iemand:

1. een aanwijzing geven -> Turn left.
2. een bevel geven -> Sit down.
3. advies geven -> Drink plenty of water.
4. iemand waarschuwen -> Watch out.

Imperative - negative form

Als je tegen iemand wil zeggen dat hij/zij iets niet moet doen, begin je de zin met DON'T!

- Don't come close to other people.

- Don't listen to them. 

- Don't believe everything you hear.

- Don't touch the vase!
