Degrees of comparison (trappen van vergelijking)

  • Je voegt of -ER of -EST aan een bijvoeglijk naamwoord om een vergelijking te maken.



  • My cat is older than you are -> Your cat is the oldest. (old)

  • She is smaller than me -> She is the smallest. (small)

  • He is smarter than most people -> He is the smartest. (smart)

Exceptions:

  • Je verdubbelt de medeklinker als het woord eindigt met een klinker en daarna een medeklinker. (big- bigger-biggest)


  • Je voegt -r of -st toe als het woord al eindigt op een E. (nice-nicer-nicest)


  • Je vervangt -y door -ier of -iest als het woord eindigt op medeklinker +Y. (happy-happier-happiest)

MORE AND MOST:

  • Je gebruikt more en most wanneer je 2 of meer lettergrepen hebt.
