Relative pronouns

Relative clauses 

Een relative clause is een bijzin die extra informatie geeft over iets of iemand. Deze bijzinnen kunnen met een aantal woorden beginnen:

Who, which, whom, whose & that.

Relative pronouns- bv

• Verwijzen terug naar een eerder genoemd woord
  
• Verbinden twee zinsdelen aan elkaar

Martin played Tennis with Sophie, who was slightly injured.

RELATIVE CLAUSES

IMPORTANT:

WHO: bij mensen

WHICH: bij dieren en dingen

THAT: bij personen, dieren en dingen (maar niet na een komma!)

WHOM: bij mensen na een voorzetsel

WHOSE: bij bezit (van wie/wiens)

Three types of sentences: Simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences.

Simple: I work in a supermarket every day.

Compound: He works at a supermarket and he works at a carwash.

Complex: He left his house at 8 because his shift starts at 9.
