When do you use "have to, can and should"? 

• advice
• obligation (verplichting) 
• permission (toestemming)

Grammar 

Can (cannot) = (niet) kunnen

1. Wat mensen, dieren, dingen (niet) kunnen.

•        I can ride a horse.

2. Toestemming. "Iets mag wel of niet".

•        He can go to the bathroom.
  
•        You cannot go to football practice.
  

Grammar 

Could (not) = zou (niet) kunnen.

1. Wat mensen, dieren, dingen (niet) konden doen in het verleden.

• We could not go outside after 8 pm.

2. Toestemming in het verleden: Iets mocht wel of niet."

• She could take the bus instead of cycling to school.

3. Als iets mogelijk is.

• They could join us.

Should

1. Advies geven. Het is goed om iets te doen, maar niet verplicht.
