verb+ing or to+ verb = infinitive

In het kort, een gerund is een ww +ing wat wordt gebruikt als een zelfstandig naamwoord en eindigt dus op "ing." 

Infinitive is de basisvorm van een werkwoord, meestal voorafgegaan door "to." to buy

 INFINITIVE & GERUND 

to buy is an example of infinitive

buying is an example of gerund

We use the gerund after verbs like...

to love, to like,  to hate

We use the infinitive after verbs like...

want, promise, decide, plan, hope, expect, refuse, ask, learn
