Yes/no questions and short answers

In het Engels is het heel onbeleefd om zomaar "ja" of "nee" te antwoorden als iemand je een vraag stelt.

Daarom herhalen we een deel van de vraag in ons antwoord.

Slide 13 - Slide

Examples
Would you like to go to the cinema?
Yes, I would. / No, I wouldn't.

Did they bring some games?
Yes, they did / No, they didn't

Has Tom given you his phone number?
Yes, he has. / No, he hasn't

Am I next?
Yes, you are. / No you're not.

May, might, be allowed to
1. may / might (not) + hele werkwoord om toestemming te vragen of zeggen dat iets niet is toegestaan. 'may' is mogen en 'might' is zou mogen.

2. be (not) allowed to + hele werkwoord om te zeggen dat iets (niet) is toegestaan volgens de regels.

May, might, be allowed to

Deze drie werkwoorden noemen we hulpwerkwoorden. Ze staan altijd met een hoofdwerkwoord in een zin.

May I go out tonight?

Might I ask you a question?

We are allowed to use a calculator during the test.
