Natural disasters can happen in many ways. Sometimes, the ground shakes. This is called an earthquake. When it rains a lot, the ground becomes moist. Storms with strong winds are called hurricanes. These events are part of nature.

Natural disasters like earthquakes start from the epicentre where the ground starts to shake due to pressure and vibrations. A hurricane can be very dangerous and often needs warm, moist air and fuel like heat to grow. When conditions become extreme, objects may burst or melt due to high energy.

ACTIVITY 2-Apply/Analyze
(moist, earthquake, fuel, burst, epicentre)

Strong heat can make metal _________
___________ needs more energy to grow stronger
Water in the air makes the air feel __________
A sudden shake in the ground is called _________

Answer the questions in complete sentences
ACTIVITY 3-Evaluate/Create
1. How do vibrations contribute to an earthquake?
2. What environmental conditions cause an earthquake to form?
3. Explain how fuel and pressure are linked to natural disasters?
4. What is the difference between an epicentre and the surface effects of an earthquake?
5. Why is moisture important in hurricane development?
Natural disasters result from complex interactions between natural forces. Pressure build-up under the Earth’s surface leads to earthquakes, which originate at the epicentre. Hurricanes thrive in moist environments and require fuel in the form of heat. Similarly, wildfires need dry materials to ignite and can burst out suddenly. Understanding how vibrations, release of energy, and environmental conditions contribute to such events is vital for prediction and safety.

Answers
1.when pressure build up is suddenly released along the cracks in the earth's surface vibrations occur leading to earthquakes.
2. movement of tectonic plates and pressure build up under the earth's surface.
3. pressure under the earth can cause earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
fuels such as dry leaves can help wildfires become more intense.
4.Epicentre is the point on the earth's surface just above the point where the earthquake started.
Surface effects include shaking, damage, caused by waves..
5. warm moist air over the ocean gives energy to the storm to grow stronger.
