How did potatoes first develop approximately nine million years ago?
Potatoes developed from an ancient genetic hybrid/mashup between a wild tomato and a tuber-forming plant in South America.
What two useful characteristics did the new hybrid plant inherit from its parent plants?
It inherited genes that allowed it to produce tubers/store food underground and helped determine how those tubers developed. The resulting plant could also survive cold conditions and reproduce without seeds.
What does the new “Gateside by TSA PreCheck” program allow eligible people to do?
It allows eligible TSA PreCheck members to go through airport security without having a plane ticket, for example to say goodbye to someone, welcome someone home, or meet someone during a layover.
What must someone do before they can use the Gateside program?
They must apply online one to three days in advance. If approved, the pass is valid for that calendar day.

Who owned the computer graphics division that eventually became Pixar?
George Lucas. Pixar originally began as the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm.
What did Pixar and Porsche create together to celebrate Toy Story 5?
They created three unique Porsche 911s, each designed around Toy Story characters Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear.
According to Bob Pauley, what is one important similarity between the process of creating an animated movie and designing a car?
Both processes begin with an idea/story and move through drawings and sketches before becoming a finished product. In animation this develops into storyboards; in car design it moves toward engineering.
Give one example of a Toy Story-inspired detail that was incorporated into one of the Porsche cars.
Buzz Lightyear's wings and rocket on the headliner, special Lightyear tires, or fabric-like texture incorporated into Woody's paintwork.

What advice does Bob Pauley give young people about choosing their future work?

Why do members of the Metro Merfolk participate in mermaiding? Give two reasons mentioned in the report.
exercise/an alternative workout, escaping reality, enjoying cosplay, expressing themselves, and bringing happiness, joy or whimsy into everyday life.

Hey Sam!
How’s it going? You won’t believe how crazy Amsterdam was when I went there last weekend. Seriously, it was absolutely packed! I knew it’d be busy, but this was on another level.
We tried to walk through the city centre, but there were tourists EVERYWHERE. At one point, we could barely move because this massive group had stopped in the middle of the street to take photos. And don’t even get me started on the queues! We wanted to grab something to eat, but every decent-looking place was completely full.
I kind of feel sorry for the people who actually live there. Imagine trying to get to work while hundreds of people are blocking the pavement with suitcases and selfie sticks! It must drive you nuts. Plus, loads of shops seem to be aimed at tourists now, so I can see why locals get fed up with it.
Still, I don’t think banning tourists is the answer. I mean, we were tourists too! Maybe the city could limit huge tour groups or encourage people to visit less crowded areas. Anything would be better than everyone squeezing into the same few streets.
Anyway, how was your weekend? Still up for meeting on Saturday?
Catch you later!
