Een 34-jarige man komt op het spreekuur van de huisarts met benauwdheid en koorts. Patiënt is sterk vermagerd. Er is orale candidiasis en gegeneraliseerde lymfadenopathie. Nu heeft hij sinds ca twee weken een droge hoest, kortademigheid bij inspanning en koorts. Er blijkt sprake van een HIV-infectie met daarbij een pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonie waarvoor hij wordt opgenomen in het ziekenhuis.
Welk aantal CD4+ lymfocyten past het beste bij deze presentatie (normaalwaarde 500-1500 cellen/ml)
