Present Simple:
De tegenwoordige tijd = (simple) present genoemd:
  • Feiten, gewoonten, dingen die we met regelmaat doen

Het hele werkwoord zonder het woord 'to' ervoor.  
LET OP!!!  Bij 'he', 'she' of 'it' is. Dan komt achter het werkwoord een '-s'.    <---  (SHIT-regel)
Ex. She lives in Amsterdam. I live in Utrecht. He goes to school. 

Vraagzin: Does she live in Amsterdam? Do I live in Utrecht?
Ontkenning: She doesn't live in Amsterdam. I do not live in Utrecht.

Wanneer present continuous = iemand is nu iets aan het doen
  • Altijd t.t. werkwoord to be EN stam+ -ing
Ex. I am cooking dinner. She is eating a burger. We are watching a movie.

Vraagzin: to be EN stam+ -ing                                         Ex. Are you watching tv?
Ontkenning: to be + not EN stam+ -ing                       Ex. I am not eating a burger.

Past Simple:
Wanneer past simple:
  • iets in het verleden gebeurd en nu  afgelopen. (yesterday, last week, two months ago, when I was younger, in 1998)
  • een vraag  over iets dat in het verleden gebeurd is, begint met het woordje: when.

Regelmatige werkwoorden: '-ed' achter het regelmatige werkwoord te zetten. 
Onregelmatige werkwoordeneigen vorm uit je hoofd leren (tweede kolom)
Ex. I worked for Amnesty International in 2002. I wrote to you yesterday. 

Vraagzin:          did + hele werkwoord.                 Ex. Did you visit your grandmother last week?
Ontkenning didn't + hele werkwoord.             Ex. He didn't sleep well last night.

Wanneer past continuous (when/while):
  • iemand iets in het verleden een tijdje aan het doen was
  • iets op een bepaald moment in het verleden aan de gang was 

Past continuous = was/were EN stam+ -ing              
Ex. I was working. He was dancing. They  were kissing

Vraagzin: was/were EN stam+ -ing                                  Ex. Was he dancing?
Ontkenning: was/were + not EN stam+ -ing                Ex. They were not kissing.

Present Perfect:
Wanneer present perfect:
  • iets in het verleden is begonnen, maar nog niet is afgelopen.
  • Iets is in het verleden gebeurd en het resultaat is nog steeds merkbaar. (since, for, just, already, yet, always, never, ever, etc.)
 
Bestaat uit: have/has + voltooid deelwoord (past participle)
Voltooid deelwoord = regelmatige werkwoorden + ed                     Ex. She has never lived in the UK. 
                                             onregelmatige werkwoorden kolom 3         Ex. The cows have given milk. 

Vraagzin: has/have + voltooid deelwoord                       Ex. Has she lived in Amsterdam since 2008?
Ontkenning: has/have + not + voltooid deelwoord     Ex. The cows have not given milk.

Wanneer past perfect:
  • Als iets in het verleden gebeurd is vlak voor iets anders gebeurde. (vaak in combinatie met de past simple). Wat eerder is gebeurd krijgt past perfect.

Past perfect = had + voltooid deelwoord (past participle)
Voltooid deelwoord = regelmatige werkwoorden + ed  
                                             onregelmatige werkwoorden kolom 3

Ex. When the police arrived, the thief had escaped.
       They had ridden their bikes before they met their friends.
