Slide 8 - Slide

Explain folder structure and organisation of files.

This is notoriously hard for students so take time to explain what a cloud is and how it works and how the drives in school are mapped to the online cloud

You will need to demo much of this and lead by example.

Exercises after initial demo and folder setup

  1.  Create "new" word document, edit in browser and save to computer science folder in onedrive
  2. Move this file to Maths folder
  3. Delete the file
  4. Open word from start menu
  5. Save to S:\onedrive and close word
  6. Go back to browser and re-open this document, make a change and save it again
  7. Delete the file on the S:

Slide 9 - Slide

This point of this set of exercises is to make student aware of the difference between using a tab online and using office online as apposed to using installed apps via the start menu inside of school and saving to the S:Drive

They are ultimately the same but students get very confused by this.  Spend time really explaining how the cloud works and ensure they get it.

Final thoughts
  • It is easy to access your files from home through a web browser
  • You should be spending around 30 mins per day checking MS teams in combination with OneDrive to go over work, complete it or do additional tasks in order to succeed in life.
  • Practice this important life skill.  Everybody expects you will be good at this in adult life.

REMEMBER WHY!
Good starting habits will be habit forming as you progress through school.  If you can understand file management, and accessing work via office.com at an early stage then you will find this second nature in later years and in the world of work.  These are essential life skills and key in most future employment
