Third Conditional
I wish…., if only….
Use the third conditional is used for events in the past which did not in fact happen

If I had lived in the 1920's, I would have worn a flapper dress
(but she didn't live in the 1920's, so she couldn't wear a flapper dress)

Make the Third conditional with two clauses
If + past perfect
would have + past participle
If  I had lived in the 1920's, I would have worn a flapper dress

Think of something that could have happened in the past and create a sentence in the 3rd conditional

The clause that begins with if
It can come first or second in the sentence. When it comes first, we use a comma after it.
If I had lived then, I would have said everything is just 'swell'.
I would have danced all the time if I had been young then

(= It's a pity that I didn't hear those songs then)
After wish, we sometimes use were instead of was.
I wish I was / were taller
