Past simple vs. Past continuous

PAST CONTINIOUS

Je gebruikt de past continuous als je zegt wat er op een bepaald moment in het verleden aan de gang was of wat je toen aan het doen was. 

Enkele signaalwoorden zijn when en while.

I was trying to be helpful.          You were watching a film when I called you.

While he was working the teacher passed him.

Je maakt de past continuous met de verleden tijd van to be (was / were) +  werkwoord + -ing.

Vragend  ???

was of were komt altijd vooraan in de zin - persoon of ding - werkwoord + -ing

Was I playing a game?

Was he working on  Monday?

Were you going to the supermarket?

Ontkennend (not)

was not / wasn't  of 

were not /weren't  + 

werkwoord + -ing

She was looking at me, but her eyes weren't seeing me

We weren't wasting our time or our trouble.

Met korte antwoorden herhaal je:

• vormen van to be: am / are / is / am not / isn’t / aren’t

• vormen van to do: do / does / don’t / doesn’t

• Can / has: can't / hasn't
• I, you, he / she / it, we, they

Are they beans ready? Yes, they are. / No, they aren’t

SHORT ANSWERS (2)

Begint je antwoord met JA dan is dat bevestigend.

Are you Mike? Yes, I am.

Begint je antwoord met NEE dan is dat ontkennend. In het Engels gebruik
je dan ook nog het woord not. 

Is he a friend of yours? No, he is not/isn’t.
