  • Skeeter: excited about the date. 
  • Hair fixed, she has a job => feeling confident. 
  • late because her brother has come home for a visit and brought his girlfriend, her mom makes her stay

  • Stuart: wealthy, experienced, good looking +comes from an influential family. 
  • Skeeter: not attractive by conventional standards +no dating experience.

3. What goes wrong on the date?
  • Skeeter: drives a truck that smells of fertilizer to the date + late
+ no makeup on. However, has bought a low-cut dress for the date! (to impress him)
  • Stuart has begun drinking while waiting for Skeeter to arrive + continues drinking at the restaurant. 
=> rude + lack of respect

4. What news does Skeeter receive?
  • Aibileen tells Skeeter that she will participate in the book project.

5. What changes Aibileen's mind?
  •  “Miss Hilly.” -> responsible for the construction of the separate restroom in the Leefolt house and for Minny’s firing.
  •   Symbolically: Minny represents the prejudice and bigotry that affects Jackson.

• White employers use vulgar language in reference to the help.
• The children, raised and loved by maids and loving them in return, grow up having the same racial prejudices as their parents have

  • Minny is bothered by the irrationality and lack of explanation for Celia’s behaviour.

  •  Johnny: walks in with an axe in his hand. 
  • BUT he has known for a while that someone has been working for Celia and doing the cooking -> the food suddenly got better
  • =>  Johnny approves of Minny’s presence in the house.
