You already know how to use the present continuous to talk about things that are happening now but we can also use it to talk about the future:

What are you doing this evening?

It is common to use the present continuous with verbs such as leave, arrive, go and come because these often refer to previously made travel arrangements

Be going to is more common with actions you don't usually make special arrangements: I am going to wash my hair tonight is more common than I am washing my hair tonight.
