must = moeten (persoonlijke noodzaak)
Have to = moeten (van buitenaf opgelegd, verplicht)
should = (zou) eigenlijk moeten 
could = kon, mocht - voorstel
would = zou

Must (+not) = iets moet (niet)

Formule:

Must (+not) + hele werkwoord

Gebruik:

(niet) moeten: persoonlijke noodzaak of kan niet anders

Example: We must visit Gran.
I mustn't be home late.

Have/has (got) to = iets moet van iemand anders

Formule:

has/have (got) to + hele werkwoord

Gebruik:

Iets moet van iemand anders, niet van jou.

Je geeft een noodzaak, zekerheid of verplichting aan.

Example: Mum says I have to do the dishes.
You have to turn off your phone in class.

'Have/has to' in ontkenningen

Als je have/has to in ontkennende zinnen gebruikt, dan verandert de betekenis van 'moeten' in 'niet hoeven'.


Formule:

Don't have to + hele werkwoord 
Doesn't have to + hele werkwoord


Example: She doesn't have to walk her dog.

Should (+not) = zou eigenlijk (niet) moeten.

Formule:
Should  (+not) + hele werkwoord

Gebruik:
jij vindt dat iets (niet) zou moeten.
Je geeft een advies danwel je raadt iets af.


Example: He shouldn't eat too much sugar.

Could (+not) = kon (niet)/mocht (niet)
Formule:
Could (+not) + hele werkwoord

Gebruik: 
Bij een voorstel of iets kon/mocht (niet)

Example: Tom could run faster than anybody else
