Indirect speech

Direct vs indirect speech

“See that man over there looking at the books?” asked the Dodger.

= Direct speech

Dodger asked Oliver if he saw that man over there looking at the books.  

= Indirect speech

Turn into indirect speech:
"What time does the train arrive?" she asked ........

1. what time the train arrived
2. when the train arrived
3. what time the train arrives
4. when the train did arrived

My cousins: We worked all night.
INDIRECT SPEECH

1. My cousins said that we worked all night.
2. My cousins said they had worked all night.
3. My cousins said they worked all night.

Turn into indirect speech:
Peter said to John: "Why are you so late?"

1. Peter asked to John why he so late was
2. Peter asked John how late he was
3. Peter asked John when he was late
4. Peter asked John why he was so late

Julie: I want to go out.
INDIRECT SPEECH

1. Julie said that I want to go out
2. Julie said that she want to go out.
3. Julie said that she wanted to go out.
4. Julie said that she had wanted to go out.

Ben: "I don't like shopping."
in indirect speech is:

1. Ben said that he don't like shopping.
2. Ben said that I didn't like shopping.
3. Ben said that I don't like shopping.
4. Ben said that he didn't like shopping.

"You have to turn left right now."
in indirect speech is:

1. I said that you have to turn left straight away.
2. I said you had to turn left straight away.
