What Are 3D Shapes?

3D shapes have length, width, and height. They are not flat like 2D shapes.

Common 3D Shapes

Familiar 3D shapes include cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and pyramids.

Properties of 3D Shapes

Properties include faces, edges, and vertices. Each shape has unique characteristics.

Cube

A cube has 6 equal square faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices.

Sphere

A sphere is perfectly round with no edges or vertices. All points are equidistant from the centre.

Cylinder

A cylinder has 2 circular faces, 1 curved surface, and no vertices.

Cone

A cone has 1 circular face, 1 vertex, and 1 curved surface.

Pyramid

A pyramid has a polygon base and triangular faces meeting at a point.

Volume of 3D Shapes

Volume measures how much space a 3D shape occupies. Calculated using specific formulas.

Tetrahedron

All faces are triangular

Surface area is the total area of all faces or surfaces of a 3D shape.
