Examples of combustion

Slide 5 - Woordweb

Combustion =
Chemical reaction between a substance and oxygen.
OR
The process of burning something

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

What happens during combustion?
  • For combustion you need:
        - Fuel = The substance(s) that a burned/combusted
        - Oxygen (O2)
  • During/after combustion you get:
- Energy = Light, heat, movement
- Waste products = The subtance(s) that are created
  • As a reaction: Fuel + Oxygen -> Energy + Waste products

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

What is the fuel used in this combustion?

Slide 8 - Open vraag

What types of energy do you get from this combustion?

Slide 9 - Open vraag

What waste products will you get?

Slide 10 - Open vraag

A sigaret
Answers these questions about a burning sigaret:
  • What is the fuel?
  • What are the waste products?
  • What types of energy will be released?
  • What is the reaction of this combustion?
  • Tobacco + oxygen -> smoke + ash + heat + light
