In source 1 I can see a very long line of people waiting to buy a product that normally would be thrown away. This shows that there were food shortages in Germany during this period otherwise the meat would have been thrown away. In source 2 children are playing with money like it’s a toy. This is because of hyperinflation. Money was worthless because the government had printed money in order to pay reparations to the allies after world war 1 and also because the French had occupied the ruhr gebiet which was the German industrial region.

Lenin believed that democracy was controlled by the bourgeoisie who also controlled the economy. It was only there to provide the fiction that people had control over their lives: “the means of production and political power remain in the hands of the exploiters”. It was just another way of ‘exploiting’ the workers and therefore the only solution was to totally change society by getting rid of the exploiting class ‘The dictatorship of the proletariat alone can free people from the oppression of capitalism’
