Definition:
Prepositions indicate relationships between other words in a sentence. Many prepositions tell you where something is or when something happened.

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

What are examples
of prepositions?

Slide 12 - Woordweb

Simple vs complex prepositions
  • Simple preposition (one word)
on, at, in, before, about, etc.

  • Complex prepositions (two or more words)
as far as, along with, in the event of, in exchange for, etc.

Slide 13 - Tekstslide

Complex prepositions
  • There are no clear rules for them.
  • The more you use English, the easier they get, as you will recognise them or passively know them.

Slide 14 - Tekstslide

Word order
  • There are many rules in terms of word order, but this might only confuse you and is very boring to talk about.
  • That's why we're not going to go indepth.
  • You can find the rules on pages 169 & 170
