Preposition of movement

Prepositions of movement show movement from one place to another place. These prepositions always describe movement and we usually use them with verbs of motion. The most common preposition of movement is the preposition to, which describes movement in the direction of something, 

for example: How do you go to work?

the man bikes.......... the river

the ball is going ...... the net

you have to hit the ball......the net

the balloon is popping ......the box

Asking for directions

• If you are lost, or cant find the place you are looking for, how would you ask someone to help you?
• Ways to ask for directions-
• Excuse me! Do you know where ________is, please?
• Excuse me! Can you give me directions to_________,please?
• Excuse me! Where is the nearest________, please?
• How do I get to___________, please?
• Can you tell me how to get to_________, please?
• Excuse me! I’m lost! Can you help me please?

Giving simple directions

• Go straight on/ Carry straight on.
  
• Turn right.
  
• Turn left.
  
• Take the …..1st road on the left/2nd road on the right
  
• It is opposite……
  
• It is in between……
  
• It is next to…….
  
• It’s on the corner.
  
• It’s about a …..minute walk, from here.

Look at map. You are going to listen to directions to four different places. Write in the places as you hear them.
