Skimming is quickly looking over a text to get the main idea without reading every word. You focus on titles, headings, first and last sentences, and keywords to understand the general topic.

What to keep in mind while reading a text:

- You don't always need to know every word to understand the main idea.
 

- Underlining important information helps you answer questions and find key points quickly.
 

- Titles, bold words, numbers, and the first or last sentences of a paragraph often contain the main idea.
 

- Use a dictionary only if a word is essential and context clues don’t help.
