What do you know about hormones?

Hormones
Chemical messengers (proteins or steroid molecules) that are secreted by hormone glands and transported with the blood. Therefore each hormone ends up everywhere in the body.
They connect to receptors on or inside of the cells of the target organ(s) and trigger a response.

Target organ
Produce and secrete the hormone. Can be far from target organ. They always produce small amounts.
Blood travels throughout the entire body, therefore the hormones will end up everywhere.
The cells of the target organ have receptors the hormones can bind to and trigger a response
Example:
Pancreas produces insuline

Mainly liver and muscle cells to stimulate the uptake of glucose

Negative feedback
The hormone that is produced inhibits (decreases) its own production.
This creates a balance in hormone levels.

Testosterone inhibits the hypothalamus
and pituitary gland which slows down its
own production
