Slide 21 - Tekstslide

Do you think animals should be kept in zoos or not?
Personally, I believe that animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos unless there’s a clear educational or conservation purpose. This is because many zoos still prioritise entertainment over animal welfare, which can lead to physical and psychological stress for the animals. For instance, I once read about a study showing that elephants in captivity often develop abnormal behaviours, like pacing or swaying, due to the lack of space and social interaction compared to their natural habitats. As a result, I think zoos need to evolve into more ethical sanctuaries or wildlife reserves that focus on protecting endangered species rather than simply displaying animals for profit.
