Als een werkwoord dat eindigt op -ing wordt gebruikt alsof het een zelfstandig naamwoord is, noem je het een Gerund. Net zoals ieder ander zelfstandig naamwoord kun je een Gerund gebruiken als onderwerp, lijdend voorwerp, meewerkend voorwerp en na voorzetsels.
