Reading Lesson

*In this lesson we're focusing on reading strategies when reading a text;  

*Guessing the meaning of unknown words;   

* Look at two paragraphs (alinea's); 

*Continue with the reading texts 

Op welke momenten lees je in het Engels? (denk aan situaties die je op vakantie in het buitenland tegenkomt);

What can you do if you don't know the meaning (betekenis) of a word?

Uit de context raden..

Context = Bij een taal: letterlijk wat er allemaal aan tekst om een woord staat. Uit de context kun je raden wat iets betekent. Dit doe je dus door goed te kijken naar de zin die om het onbekende woord heen staat...

Kijk maar eens naar deze zin; 

She was vehemently looking for her purse. She couldn't find it anywhere. Sweat was pearling down her face. She was all alone in a strange country and she needed her money to buy a bus ticket.

I was so Exasperated after I heard the children yell so loudly while I was studying hard for my maths exam. I wanted to score an A. 

Frankly, I didn't know that the children were so mean. I thought they were actually incredibly nice. 

What is the meaning of the words in bold? 

I don't agree with you. I actually disagree with you on the ban on telephones in school. "Wat geeft 'dis' aan?"

The man (on the picture) is welding a steel pipe together. "What is welding?"

Het nut van beeldmateriaal bj het leren van woorden..

Dit doe je vaak als je een serie aan het kijken bent. Mocht je nieuwe woorden willen leren of Engels een moeilijk vinden of juist makkelijk en je woordenschat uitbreiden, dan kan het kijken van series (met de Engelse subtitles aan) er voor zorgen dat je nieuwe woorden leert. Je hersenen koppelen dan het beeld van een lassende man aan het nieuwe woord zoals welding. Als je het woord dan voorbij ziet komen kun je soms dat beeld zo weer oproepen.

THE BENEFITS OF DAILY EXERCISE

1.Daily exercise helps you to stay in shape and to stay fit. Many people - who exercise - feel their fitness levels rise within the timespan of a week. Benefits of staying fit for your physique are: having a better stamina (You can run longer laps without getter tired for example). Furthermore, you won't have to worry about the size of your clothes anymore . 

2. Moreover,  daily exercise helps you to stay mentally fit as well. After a hard day of studying / spending a full day at shool, exercise can help to break down stress hormones. Scientists found that spending 30 minutes doing something active creates an  increase of 30% of the 'happy hormone' (dopamine). Thus, science has shown  that exercising can be good for your brains as well.
