At the end of the lesson you will be able to explain what force and motion are, describe Newton's laws of motion, and identify examples from real life.

What Is Force?

A force is a push or pull acting upon an object. Forces can make objects start moving, stop moving or change direction.

What Is Motion?

Motion is the change in position of an object over time. Objects move in response to forces acting on them.

Newton’s First Law: Inertia

An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, unless a force acts upon it. This is called inertia.

Newton’s Second Law: F=ma

Force equals mass times acceleration (F=ma). This means heavier objects require more force to move or stop.

Newton’s Third Law: Action and Reaction

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When you push against something, it pushes back with the same force.

Sports Example

Riding a bicycle shows all Newton’s laws. You must pedal (force) to move, stop or turn (change motion).

Kicking a ball applies force, making it move. The reaction force pushes against your foot.
