When do you use the Present Perfect?

How do you form the Present Perfect?

Why do we use the Present Perfect Continuous?

Present Perfect Continuous
(have/has + been + infinitive + -ing)

When do you use it?

1. actions beginning in the past and still continuing (focus is on the action) – mostly with since (point of time) or for (period of time)

2. recently completed actions (focus is on the action)

 

Signal words: all day, the whole day, since, for, questions with how long

1. She has been writing for two hours.

2. I have been walking all afternoon, so my legs are dead.

Positive: He ... (to feel) ill for a few days.

Negative: I ... (to sleep) for more than 24 hours already.

Positive: ... (you / to do) this course for a long time?

Negative: You ... (to study) since yesterday.

Positive: I ... (to work) in this office since last summer.

Negative: We ... (to walk) for 1 hour.
