At the end of the lesson you know how to do a part 6 of the FCE reading exam.

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

skimming & scanning
skimming = to read a text quickly, ignoring gaps and words you do not know to get a global understanding of what the text is about.
scanning = to read a text quickly  to look for specific information e.g. the price of something.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

skimming
Skim the text to get an idea of what is being discussed in the text.

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

reference words
Reference words refer to a word that was used earlier in the text. Reference words are used to avoid using the same word over and over again.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

why do you have to know reference words?
In the exam there will be questions like: To what word does "these"refer?
You also need to be able to put paragraphs in the correct order. Reference words help you to know what the order should be.

Have a look at the example in the video.
