Do you have Instagram or other social media accounts? Do you post pictures? What kind of pictures?

If you don’t post any pictures, what kind of Instagram pages do you like to follow? (the pages of my friends, art, sports, health., music etc.)

What is an Instagram caption?

• A caption is a description that is added to a photo on social media. 
• Captions can include text, hashtags, and emojis. 

What will we learn in this class?

Learn to write engaging  captions about 

• the environment
•  nature 
• relationship between humans and the planet. 

Matching exercise (in pairs)

•  Match the images with captions. 

Choose one picture with its caption. Explain your choice.
Examples:

- I like the picture of _______ because…. This caption makes me think of….
- The message of this caption is…..
- I like the caption because (the way it is expressed, it tells a story, it calls for action, it is informative…)

Brainstorming 

Have a look at the examples of captions that you have received.  

Brainstorm in your groups what makes a good caption? (2 min)

Think of:

- Content

- Form

- Length

- Emoji’s

- Hashtags

In pairs: go through the text about good captions.

Are these tips similar to those you’ve brainstormed? Or are they different? List one similarity and one difference.

Creating captions in groups

1. Select one image and create a caption within your group (2 minutes)

1 group = 1 caption

2. Read your caption. The rest of the group guesses to what picture it belongs.

Creating my own caption

Write a caption for the picture you have prepared for this class

What can you write?

- Shed light on the relationship humans vs the Earth

- Show how fragile the Earth is (habitats, endangered species, etc.)

- Call for action (recycle, be careful with natural resources, buy sustainable products, waste less etc.)

- You can rhyme your caption like Prince Ea :)

- Use the tips from the article about captions

Creating my own caption

1. Go to Padlet 

2. Download the chosen image and write down your caption by following these steps:

I.click on the icon  in the right corner at the bottom of the screen to create a new message

II. to download your image click on the first icon 

III. search the image on your laptop and add it

IV. write your caption within the box: ‘Schrijf iets fantastisch’

V. click on ‘Publiceren’

Select two captions you like the most (in pairs)

- What do you like about this caption (vocabulary, creativity, message …)?

- Hoe does this caption make you feel?

- Does this caption engage your interest? Why?

- How does it compares to others you have seen?

- Do you agree or disagree with the message in this caption?

Comment on two captions you like the most (in pairs)

How to add a comment?

1. Click on the icon in the right corner at the bottom.

2. Write your comment.

3. Place your comment under the picture by dragging it.

The caption with the most comments becomes the winner of the caption competition
