A ratio compares two or more quantities. For example, if you have 3 apples and 2 oranges, the ratio is 3:2.

Writing Ratios in Different Ways

Ratios can be written using 'to', with a colon (:), or as a fraction. E.g., 3 to 2, 3:2, or 3/2.

Ratios in Real Life

Ratios are everywhere! If there are 8 boys and 12 girls in a class, the ratio is 8:12 or 2:3 after simplifying.

What is a Proportion?

A proportion shows that two ratios are equal. For example, 1:2 = 2:4. Proportions help us solve problems using equivalent ratios.

Solving Proportion Problems

If 2 slices of pizza serve 3 children, how many slices are needed for 9 children? Set up a proportion to solve: 2/3 = x/9.
