Skimming a text

When reading in detail you...

• 1 ~ skim the text: w-questions, global structure
• 2 ~ read the text in detail: highlight the important info, look up what you don't understand 

While writing the summary

• 1 ~ first draft: use your own words, the highlighted info
• 2 ~ check on language, grammar, structure, neutrality... 

After writing the summary

• Is your summary clear and understandable as a whole? 
• can someone read the summary and understand the text without reading the text?
