Relative Pronouns

'Relative Pronouns' (betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden) gebruik je als je extra informatie wilt geven over iets of iemand met behulp van een bijzin.

who(m), which, whose

Who(m) > Bij personen

Which > Bij dieren en dingen

Whose > Bij personen om bezit aan te geven

WHO

Verwijst naar personen:

I gave my dog to Mr. Brown, who promised to take good care of it.

WHOM

Verwijst naar personen:

• Let op: Gebruiken na een voorzetsel

This is the colleague with whom I work.

WHICH

Verwijst naar dieren en dingen

The second explosion was near the station, which was badly damaged.

WHOSE

• Bij personen om bezit aan te geven
  

I thought of Mary, whose mother was sick.

THAT

• Who en which kun je soms vervangen door ‘that’.

This is the boy who had an accident./This is the boy that had an accident.

TENZIJ het tussen komma’s staat!
