Negatives in the Past simple

Als je negations wil maken in de past simple heb je het hulp werkwoord, did not nodig.  Als je een negetion maakt komt er geen -ed achter het werkwoord, je gebruikt de STAM.

VB: He did not help me yesterday.

VB: We did not help them last week.

Questions in the Past simple

Als je vragen wil maken in de past simple heb je het hulp werkwoord did nodig. Dit hulp werkwoord komt aan het begin van de zin. Je gebruikt dan did + stam ww.

VB: Did he help you yesterday? 

VB: Did my friends travel to Arnhem last week?

The past simple passive

LET OP! Het voltooid deelwoord heeft regelmatige en onregelmatige werkwoorden. 

Regelmatig: Werkwoorden worden in de verleden tijds vorm vervoegd, 

work -> worked. (The case was worked on for months.) 

Onregelmatig: Deze werkwoorden hebben een afwijkende vorm voor het voltooid deelwoord, write -> written. (The paper was written.)

LET OP! Wil je nadruk leggen op wie iets heeft gedaan? Voeg "by ......" toe aan het einde van de zin. (All the victims were killed by the same person.)

The past simple passive

Als je niet kunt of wilt zeggen wie of wat iets gedaan heeft, gebruik je de passive (lijdende vorm).

Je komt deze vorm van de verleden tijd vaak tegen in krantenartikelen en rapporten. De passive bestaat uit een vorm van To be + een voltooid deelwoord. In de past (verleden tijd) Is to be altijd was of were.

VB: Chapman was arrested and charged with murder.
