- Als iets in het verleden regelmatig is gebeurd (gewoonten)

Signaalwoorden: yesterday, last ..., ... ago, in 2012, when

Past Continuous

Hoe?

was/were + hele werkwoord + -ing

Wanneer?

- Als iets in het verleden en tijd heeft geduurd of aan de gang was. Vaak staat de past continuous dan in één zin samen met de past simple

- Als iets in het verleden regelmatig gebeurde en dit je irriteert. Vaak staat er dan een signaalwoord in de zin, bijvoorbeeld: always, constantly, forever, all the time, continually, enzovoort

Past Simple

I wanted to go home early yesterday.

When I was little, we always went to the Efteling on weekends.

Past Continuous

Sam was watching a film when we came in.

Those girls were always teasing me.

Present Perfect

Hoe?

have/has + voltooid deelwoord

Wanneer?

- Als iets in het verleden is begonnen en nog steeds gaande is (signaalwoorden: since, for five years, etc.)

- Als iets in het verleden is gebeurd en de nadruk ligt op het resultaat (signaalwoorden: so, because, etc.)

- Als iets in het verleden is gebeur, maar het niet duidelijk of belangrijk is wanneer precies 

- Als iets zojuist is gebeurd (signaalwoorden: already, just, today, etc.)

Present Perfect

The band has released two albums since 2016.

Justin has broken his arm, so he can't perform tonight.

I have heard this song before, but where?

Eddie has just left the building.
