actions that started and finished at a specific time in the past.
actions that happened a really short time ago.

She has worked at the bank for 5 years.    She worked at the bank for 5 years.                                     






We can see that she started working at the bank in 1997 and finished in 2002. She no longer works there.
We can see that she started working at the bank 5 years ago and is still working there.
