->Action finished in the past
  • Regular form: verb + ED (I decided/you believed etc.)
  • Irregular verbs: 2nd form = past simple (i.e.: draw/drew/drawn)-> learn by heart small booklet - p.88-91


->Regular ACTION OR SITUATION in the past:
  • Used to + verb (I used to smoke a lot/ I used to attend Glengarry District High School when I was a teen.)
  • Didn't use to + verb

->Use the following if you only talk about an ACTION in the past:
  • Would + verb (I would sing nursery rhymes in kindergarten)

-> Use DIDN'T USE TO for negative actions and situations!

Form:
has (he/she/it) +  3rd form / verb + ed
have (I/you/we/they + 3rd form/verb +ed

Use:
  1. Action that started in the past and is still going on  -> for/since/how long..
  2. Action that has just finished (when = not important) -> already, (not) yet, just
  3. Result is important, not when
  4. To talk about experience (have you ever been to ...?; I have always believed ...; I have never come across...)


Signal Words:
already, ever, just, never, not yet, so far, till now, up to now, since, for etc.
