Present Perfect

all actions happened in the past but:

1. when is not important:          I have finished my homework.

2. is still going on:                        I have lived here for 2 years

3. result is important now:       I have lost my key (and can't get in)

4. with words: just, lately, recently and yet. (see FYNE JAS)

Present Perfect:

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

1. when is not important:                        specific time in the past         
 I have finished my homework.           I finished it  yesterday

2. is still going on:                                     completed action

3. result is important now.                     retelling of events                     

I have lost my key (and can't get in)   I lost my key but found it later at work.
