Prefix/affix or suffix - ex. 13/14
Morpheme = a meaningful unit of language that cannot be divided any further. 

For example: un-, dis-, pre-, -ment, -ship, --ion etc.

A morpheme can be a prefix or a suffix/affix to a root word (=often a verb)

Present simple (i.e. blog/blogs):
What do they blog about?
What does he blog about?
Rule: does (he/she/it) + infinitive (=hele ww); do(I/you/we/they) + infinitive (= hele ww)

Past simple (i.e. blogged/wrote):
How often did he blog during his trip last year?
Why did she write that when they broke up?
Rule: did (all pronouns) + infinitive (=hele ww)

Present perfect (i.e. has blogged/have rung):
Why hasn't he blogged about it yet?
Why haven't you rung her yet?
Rule: has (he/she/it) + 3rd form/past participle; have (I/you/we/they) + 3rd form/past participle

Present continuous (i.e. am speaking/ is blogging/are doing):
What are they blogging about these days?
Am I speaking to the entire class tomorrow?
Why are you always doing this?
Rule: am/is/are + infinitive (hele ww) + ing

Future (will/am-is-are going to) (i.e. I will help you!; He is going to fall!):
Will you be there as well?
Why is going to change our plans?
Shall I/we get that for you?
Rule: will + infinitive (=hele ww); shall (for we/I) + infinitive; am/is/are going to + infinitive

Past perfect (i.e. had blogged/had been):
Why hadn't you walked the dog before I came home yesterday?
Rule: had  + 3rd form/past participle

Present Perfect vs Past Simple
General rule Past Simple:
  • Regular verbs: verb + ED
  • Irregular verbs: 2nd form (know by heart!!!!!)
  • Used when ACTIONION IS FINISHED - WHEN is IMPORTANT
  • Signal words: when/ago/last night/last week/yesterday etc.


General rule Present Perfect:
  • has (he/she/it) + past participle(-> regular verbs: verb + ED / irregular verbs: 3rd form)
  • have (I/you/we/they) + past participle (-> regular verbs + ED / irregular verbs: 3rd form)
  • Used for: RESULT is import (when=  NOT IMPORTANT/NOT MENTIONED; EXPERIENCE; RECENT ACTION; ACTION THAT STARTED IN THE PAST + IS STILL GOING ON /
  • Signal words: for/since/already/never/ever/always/yet/before/how long/how often etc.
