Grammar 4 Modal verbs= hulpwerkwoorden
Kenmerken:
- Ze veranderen niet van vorm* *Behalve To have to/ To be able to
* Let op: bij To have to  gebruik je wel- do/does of did voor vragend en ontkennend.
Vervoegen: to have to -have/has/had.
Vervoegen: to be able to - am/is/are/was/were able to

Slide 24 - Slide

Can gebruik je om

Slide 26 - Slide

To be able to- ( am, is, are, was, were able to+ infinitief)

- I am not able to swim because I have broken my leg ( je hebt de vaardigheid wel, maar bent er niet toe in staat.
I was not able to join you because I had an appointment at my GP.

Slide 27 - Slide

Must, should en have to
Met must, should en have to zeg je dat iets moet of zou moeten. Must en have to zijn wat dwingender dan should (= zou eigenlijk moeten). Je kunt should zien als advies. Met must en have to zeg je dus allebeide wat moet. Toch is er een verschil tussen must en have to. Must gebruik je als je zelf vindt dat iets moet, have to als dat van een ander moet (regel, wet, indirect via iemand anders).
